Abstract: Physics-based packing for two-dimensional layout design is a new way which use a rubber band wrapping around some objects to simulate the compacting process due to elastic contraction ability.Constructed the model of physics-based layout design and analyze the rule of physical movement. An experiment is designed to obtain the path of the moving objects. The results of the bench test match well with the analysis of the movement rule.So does physics-based method for layout design.

Key words: two-dimensional compact layout, physics method, experiment design, movement rule
