Abstract: The material strength and fatigue performances of 18Cr2Ni4W and 34CrNiMo6 were measured for the problem of crankshaft material unification of a certain engine. The reliability of crankshaft with two different materials was calculated based on finite element simulation and stress-strength interference theory. The contrast analysis with traditional deterministic safety factor evaluation method was implemented.Reveals the disadvantage of traditional evaluation method, and provides theory support for material unification design of the engine crankshaft.

Key words: stress-strengthinterference, crankshaft, fatigue strength, reliability
