A personalized locator of axis of collum femoris design based on local shape extraction

Abstract: To fix position of the axis of the collum femoris conveniently and quickly in proximal femur operation,a new method based on local shape extraction is used to design the collum femoris axis locator.Firstly,femur digital model is acquired.Then,the local shape of proximal femur shape is extracted and reconstructed,which can be used as the personalized mating face of the locator.Meanwhile the axis of the collum femoris is also extracted.Finally,the entire locator is designed by CAD software and the installation errors are analyzed to verify the feasibility of the locator.It provides an effective way to design the surgical instruments and develop the personalized solutions,which will be helpful to reduce the experience requirement and the probability of the unnecessary iatrogenic injury.
