Abstract: To solve the problem of misusing cutting tools, fixtures and workpieces in the machining process of a smart hobbing machine,a method to check the matching of cutting tool, fixture and workpiece to a machining task is proposed .Based on this method, the framework of the Identification and Matching System of Cutting tools,Fixtures and Workpieces (IMS-CFW) for a smart hobbing machine is constructed. Some identification and control technologies of realizing system functions are studied. An identification method based on laser-marked 2D barcode and Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) is adopted for creating electronic tags.To solve the interference and collision problems in reading electronic information automatically, here are proposed a positioning control method of RFID read-write head reading the fixture information based on fuzzy self-tuning PID algorithm and a rotating control method of cutter bar’s or fixture’s axis based on the time of RFID device reading information. Finally,an IMS-CFW is developed. The machining experiments show that the system can solve the misuse problem, reduce preparation time and improve machining efficiency, which is practically worthy of industrial promotion.

Key words: cutting tools identification, RFID, matching and verification method, fuzzy self-tuning PID algorithm
