Abstract: In order to studying the principle of cutting force and temperature in micro milling,FEA simulation has implemented to AL6061-T6 and STEEL1018 by AdvantEdge. The minimum chip thickness is preliminary estimated by the analysis of the process of chip formation and different situation of cutting force component, and the size effect in micro machining is also revealed by studying the specific cutting force of two material. The experiment of micro slotting is implemented, the cutting force is measured and the topography of machining surface is analyzed, which give the efficient basis to the optimization of micro machining parameter.

Key words: micro milling, simulation, minimum chip thickness, size effect
