Abstract: To optimize the cut parameters on turning of SiCp/Al composites with high volume fraction,16 orthogonal experiments based on cutting speed, feed rate, cutting depth and nose radius are designed. The orthogonal experiments are conducted on 50 % SiCp/Al composites.Surface roughness value is achieved using surface roughness meter. The sensitivity of the four cutting parameters on surface roughness is analyzed by Taguchi approach.Accordingly, three prediction models of surface roughness based on multivariate regression equation, exponential equations are built respectively. The predicted results on surface roughness of the different prediction model on the same cutting parameters are compared and analyzed, and the optimal cutting parameters are determined. The cut experiments are conducted again, and the results show that the precise performance is achieved on predicting the surface roughness and determining the optimal cutting parameters by using the multivariate regression equation.
