Abstract: Single blade helix end milling can be regarded as oblique cutting, analyzing the cutting process based on equivalent plane method is more in line with the characteristic of oblique cutting .In the equivalent plane, the oblique cutting is converted into two dimensional orthogonal cutting:the equivalent rake angle, equivalent clearance angle, equivalent cutting edge radius are deduced, the tool parameters obtained from the formula are used in the two dimensional model, and the two dimensional orthogonal model based on the equivalent plane is established. The simulation results are compared with the simulation results of the two dimensional orthogonal model based on the main section,it is found that there are some differences in the cutting force and chip morphology between the two models, the results show that converting oblique cutting into two dimensional orthogonal cutting base on equivalent plane will affect the accuracy of the simulation results. The modeling method based on equivalent plane can provide a reference to the optimization of 2D simulation modeling of oblique cutting.

Key words: the equivalent plane, effective parameters of cutter, two dimensional orthogonal model, oblique cutting, finite element simulation
