Abstract: It is important how to choose the grinding parameters,as the cost of grinding is very high. The influence of grinding parameters to the surface roughness and the production efficiency was discussed.Aimed at the cutting parameters of grinding for outer cylindrical grinding,an optimization model which is based on the minimum process cost of grinding was established. The model is constrained by roughness of the machined surface, the stiffness of the part, the power of the grinding machine, the parameters of the grinding machine, and the grinding allowance. The variables of the optimization includes the grinding allowance, the lengthwise travel rate of table and the depth of cut. Finally,an experiment case of a motor shaft was performed to verify the validity of the optimization model, compared with the traditional methods, process costs have been reduced by almost 19%.

Key words: cylindrical grinding, grinding parameters, process cost, constraint condition, optimization model
